    Becky,

This sounds like some bad pain. I can say that its uncomfortable but not ‘painful’ for me to sit for long periods.

Here are some things you can do:
    1. Get a nada chair. These things help support your back way better than any real chair – they wrap around your knees. They are great for long sitting
    2. Do yoga and stretches to improve core muscles. I have a resource that I’ll put below that has more detail on these if you are interested. This is more of a long term solution.

After sitting if you do the yoga stretch called the cobra, and the fish pose, and alternate them they should alleviate your pain.

I wish you luck and hope that this pain doesn’t last,
    John

Do stretches – even while you’re sitting – and don’t sit for more than an hour without getting up and moving –
Put your arms/hands over your head and bend side to side – as well as touch your toes – and take your elbow in your hand and "pull" it toward your shoulder – turning slightly – to stretch the back muscles –

I am not a physiotherapist, chiropractor or doctor but I think you should not sit for long periods. Take a preventive approach to the pain. Take short breaks regularly. Sit straight, feet on floor if at a desk. Use wrist support and low back support if working on a computer.
Consult one of the above professionals. I know you can walk into a chiropractor’s office and get treatment (without referral from a doctor) in Ontario. You’d need a doctor’s referral for a PT though.
Your doctor is the person who can rule out most problems such as fracture of spine, osteoarthritis, muscle strain and so you may want to start there. Your pain pattern is quite specific so make sure you mention it to the doctor. And good luck.

I also have issues with back pain. I posted my question on wish123 and got an answer from an expert who solved my problems. Highly recommend the website.
