Exercises To Help With Back Pain

Almost all of us get back pain at some time in our life. Only when it gets to the point of being really painful do we take action about the pain. Like many, I sit at a computer all day (and a great deal of the evening) so I take niggling, regular low back pain from sitting badly with poor posture as part of my daily routine. Occasionally, I wake up with sore back as well. Sometimes though it breaks through from the background and I have no choice but to get up and take action.

My back lower pain started one year when I didn’t heed the warnings while shifting tons of stones into the front drive. I ended up off work and walking about on my hands and knees for a day or two until I could brave the back pain and sciatica when I hauled my self up using the door frame! As someone who is used to doing lots of physical things I find it very frustrating to be caught out by the twinges, but I have found gentle stretching and exercises do help to relieve the pain (along with the essential 2 ibuprofen tablets!)

If you are one of those people that suffers from a regular back pain you might find back exercises can help relieve your back pain pretty easily if they are done on a regular basis. Doing certain back exercises on a regular basis should help you maintain a healthy quality of life and live with less back pain on a daily basis. Strengthening your back, abs, and other supporting muscles that are in the core of your body with these exercises can make you feel better quickly.

When sitting down in a chair, put a cushion behind your to help support your lower back. Sit in an upright position fully into the chair as straight as you can. Don’t slump -sit up .

The first exercise to help you relieve back pain is a simple stretch. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, hands on your hips, and just twist back and forth slowly from the hips. This will help to loosen your back and abs up and the longer you do it the further you will be able to twist.

My favorite exercise for relieving upper back pain while sitting at my desk is to lift both arms up in the air and interlock the fingers. Slowly turn the palms out forward while stretching both arms up until you feel you feel the sides of your armpits being pulled. The upper back benefits from the stretching and back pain will lessen in no time.

Lie down on your front and with your back exposed, put a covered ice pack on the areas which are painful. Leave the ice pack on the back for 3 to 5 minutes will do. This temporarily relieves the back pain. Follow the ice treatment with a heat If you can. This is a common remedy that athletes use on sore and strained muscles. Try a hot bath as well if you can get yourself in to it.

Lie down on your front and let somebody gently massage your back over the areas of your back which are painful. This assists blood circulation and decreases the tenseness in the muscles.

Lie face down with arms by your side do some simple leg lifts to strengthen your lower back. Lift one leg up and hold it for 10 seconds then change to the other leg. After that lift both legs carefully and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat these three exercises 3 to 5 times. Regular practice of these simple back exercises will help to help strengthen the back muscles and ease away the back pain.

Lay on the ground with your arms extended out to each side, then take one of your legs and cross it as far over the other one as you can. Your hips will rotate and you should feel a stretch from your leg all the way up to your arms. This exercise stretches out a lot of your muscles, feels great and really loosens up your back.

Don’t forget, if you continually have lower back pain even after trying to relieve it, then you need to see your doctor as it could be the sign of something more serious since back pain is also caused by kidney and lung problems.
