Backpain, Food and Water

How about diet and water intake

“How important is it to really keep away from alcohol
and coffee, and to drink plenty water instead?”

…asks from Paul, 52 years old, North California.

Eric from BulletProof Back replies..

Well, a good diet and adequate water intake create the
foundation for overall vibrant health.

And good health is where a healthy body that is free
of pain, including back pain, begins.

So eating well is extremely important for many reasons:

* Inadequate water intake can cause dehydrated
lumbar discs, which lowers their shock absorption
ability and increases stresses on the spine

ACTION: Make it a habit to drink at least 2 litres of
water per day (more if you exercise)

* A diet high in sugar, other refined carbs and
trans-fats causes inflammation in the body, which
can cause joint pain (in the spine and elsewhere)
and slow your body’s ability to heal

ACTION: Make sure with each meal, you have inflammation-
reducing foods like pretty much ANY vegetable

* Excessive alcohol intake is a diuretic which makes
you lose water, so the more coffee (or any caffeinated
beverage) you drink, the more water you need to
drink… As well, getting drunk can cause you to lose
your balance and fall, hurting your back, or if you’re
an angry drunk, get in a fight where some big guy
breaks your back for you… :)

ACTION: Drink water between alcoholic drinks if at
a big drinking event, and/or learn a martial art
(highly recommended)

… and many more.

Now I’m not a dietary saint.

I enjoy coffee in my French press, with fresh ground
beans from my antique grinder about 3 days/week.
[The smell of freshly ground beans is amazing - try
it if you haven't]

I’ll also have a few beers or glasses of wine a week.

I also allow myself to have a cheat day once a week
(usually Saturdays).

But the rest of the time, I eat extremely clean and do
my best to make sure the foods I eat contribute to a
long and healthy life.

Hopefully that answers your question.

Seems to me you knew the answer already, but you
were possibly hoping for the opposite. Sorry to
disappoint. ;)

That’s it for today’s newsletter folks, I’m off to bed.

Good night!
