Sciatica is caused by the pinching of a nerve from L3,L4, or L5. Exercises can strengthen the muscles to eliminate this and one other thing he might try is to lay on his back with a small pillow just above his buttock.

I would also suggest seeing a Physician because permanent damage can occur if this continuous.

I use Voltaren gel rub. It is more effective on the pain and no problems with the intestines. And I get sciatica very badly, it goes from the left side down the leg clear to my foot. It's not funny for sure. Cheers.

Go to YouTube and type in Sciatica. A lot of really good stretches come up and it's nice to be able to see the instructors. I went to my chiropractor and that seemed to help too. Good luck to your husband....the pain is awful!

The wisest thing to do is to see a physical therapist before starting any exercises on your own. There are, in fact, exercises that could harm him more...but which one is the "right one" and which one is the "wrong one" varies between individuals. I would recommend your husband see a physical therapist who is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. He can find one at: www.mckenziemdt.org

Best wishes.
