How to deal with the pain of pulled back muscles?

Question about how to deal with back pain from pulled back muscles..

I just recently suffered from pulled muscles in the back, I was walking down the stairs at my house slipped and landed really hard on my back, knocking the breath out of me and causing really bad pain.
Two weeks later the pain is still quite bad.
It hurts to get up, sit down, turn side ways, and even walking hurts.
I just want to know how you other people dealt with the pain.
I don’t like taking medication unless absolutely necessary.
I have two dogs to take care of, I’m constantly walking up and down stairs.
Resting isn’t really an option for me because I deliver food to houses around town, luckily I have a partner to unload the groceries for me.

(And a thanks to my neighbour for being outside when I fell).

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain. Even if your doctor has pronounced judgement that he/she knows what’s causing things, try this book. As the author says, trigger point therapy should be the first course of treatment: it’s easy and cheap.

Did you ice it right after it happened? Did you do RICE- rest, ice compression and elevation? It might help with the pain management. Although time has passed I would still try an ice pack. It usually helps if you do it right after the injury. Also I would get into the fetal position every chance I could– drawing your knees up to the chest and wrapping your arms around them. This can help relax the muscles. I would not over-exercise it that’s for sure,. It needs time to heal and muscle strains can be slow. Eat lots of fruits and veggies for good nourishment and lots of pure water. I would avoid taking any pain medications- they all have risks unfortunately. Nurse Kindheart

the best thing you can do right now is to take ibprophen and stretch.
try simple things like slowly bending over to touch your toes. hold for several seconds then try again.
also try laying on the floor (back down) and slowly bringing one knee at a time to your chest. hold for about 30 seconds. after you do each knee bring both to your chest. this will press your spine flat onto the ground and stretch out those aching muscles.

hope this helps, pulled back muscles suck!

Go to the doctor if possible and they can prescribe some meds like possibly hydrocodone and a muscle relaxer. rethink your position on taking meds, if you follow directions for them you won’t have a problem. also a doctor may be able to tell you if you damaged anything internally. For example you may have a slipped disc or a broken bone. After 2 weeks you should be feeling better so it s time to give the doctors a shot a it. I know how you feel but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

You just knocked something out of alignment. I had this happen too, and I found a book that taught me how to adjust myself. It’s really easy and guaranteed. Check it out.
