A friend was in the same position as you.Been to the doctors, chiropractor the lot and was at the end of his tether with the pain.
Now your not going to believe this, but he sprayed the painful area with WD40, his line of thought being it stops stiffness and creaking parts, and within 2 days was completely pain free.
Another friend tried it with the same result.
If it dosen`t work for you the only nasty effect would be a greasy warm patch of skin.
a really hot bath and a massage
get stoned (honestly)
allegedly cannabis is a good relaxant of muscle and nerve pain…I know someone with Multiple Sclerosis who resorted to it after all prescribed medication failed to help…small doses at a time
I’ve heard of this being treated by drinking healthy amounts of water. Divide your body weight in half (pounds), and that’s how many ounces of water you should drink throughout the day. Sciatica, migraines, arthritis, and other forms of painful conditions are often caused by lack of water. Drink lots of water each day for a week or two and see how your body responds.
Oh dear – my husband is going through the exact same thing! It depends on what is causing your sciatica, which unfortunately has to be diagnosed by a doctor. Right now hubby is getting a lot of rest, and is taking extra-strength Tylenol, which also makes him drowsy enough to sleep (when he doesn’t sleep, I don’t sleep).
Seek a good massage therapist. If you feel that you cannot afford one, go to (or call) one of the local massage therapy schools and ask for RMT (registered). The prices are very low for professional help.
You need to go see the doc to find out what is causing the pain and then get it treated. You cannot self diagnose back pain. You could have anything from a pinched nerve to a slipped disc to a bulging disc or something else so go to the doc first. Once you have been diagnosed ask your doc for something to help you sleep as well as for the pain and ask if he approves you to be seen by a chiropractor and then go see your chiroprator.
if there is a chinese relief/therapy place nearby, try them, they are meant to be really good
try using a TENS MACHINE
Be back/posture aware with everything you do, try to sleep on a firm mattress (floor not recommended), do not lie on the problem side (sleep on your left). Alchohol is not good as the nerves are inflamed and booze aggrivates inflamation. Try to take anti inflammatory as opposed to straight painkillers (ibobrufen is good). You can get this in a gel form and massage it in around the lower back, this does work. Keep the lower back straight and warm. Try gentle excecises, lie flat on the floor and try to pivot your hips. If pain persist see your doctor.
You may be opposed to the idea of alternative medicine, but acupuncture may give you some temporary relief while you get an appointment to see a physician. I would strongly recommend a Dr check you out, because what feels and presents as sciatica may in fact turn out to be a disc herniation, or spinal stenosis.
I’m presuming that you have been diagnosed with Sciatica if not see your Doctor as the pain could be coming from the spine or hip and needs investigation!
Ask your Doctor about Omeprazole, it can counteract the irritation caused by the painkillers. (I take it alongside Aspirin for heart disease and it does help)
Have you tried a Tens machine? This can reduce the pain, relax the muscles and if you have a session just before bed-time may help you sleep. (I wouldn’t be without mine)
Some people find Acupuncture provides relief and its painless! It might be worth considering.
Drink plenty of water during the day, don’t know why but it helps with pain from arthritis and nerve pain (sciatica is pain down the sciatic nerve)
The only other drug I know works is Cannabis but you can only get the cannabis based drug Sativex if you suffer from MS in the UK and then it’s not easy as it needs a specialist to prescribe it. Unfortunately the law doesn’t take the reason for its use in it’s natural form into consideration even though it’s a known nervous system relaxant! It’s not really worth the risk!
Hope you find some relief soon!
My dad had it real bad and his doc suggested accupuncture and he has not complained about it once since he did it done.
Maybe it is something worth trying………if not then good luck finding something that works.
I had the same problem in may and was on my back for 7 weeks.I nearly died. get your self natural anti -inflammatory vitamins .what i used was evening primrose ,vit b12 ,vit b complex, magnesium, vit c,vit e,get your self Camomile tea or a tea night time (its a fruit and herbal infusion with Camomile,)
Try lying on the floor with your legs over the edge of the bed as if you are doing crunches.
I am now much better with no operation.Good luck i know what u are going through .Hope my advice will make your life a bit easier.
N.S
there are several things to try,
1. Chiropractor
2. Ice, 20 min on 40 min off, do not go over 20 min on at a time.
3. Lay on your back and pull your knees up to your chest, this stretches out the lower back muscles
3. Try arnica, both as a rub and a disolvable tab. it is all natural and works great.
4. Also try white willow bark, it is all natural and relieves pain, inflammation, stifness.
Hope you get better soon.
hello ,you do not need to take medication try a tens machine they do work.i have a bad back and it works for me.
accorimd to which side as u said the right, u just sleep side line on ur lift side, and use pilow just just under ur hip. this way u ll decrase the compression over the siatic nerve, by imcreasing the space between the naroweing vertabre. and try to have exercise be bending ur trunk to the left, avoid twesting, stritch ur back. never sleep prone. use hot aplocations, and if u can have lumber traction u ll completly treat ur prob. and if pain not reduce when u sleep left side line, and exercise do nothing, maybe its not siatica, its maybe piriformis syndrom. it has same symptoms and pain of siatica. to defrentiate, take supine position and do strigh leg rising 70 degree, then dorsiflex ur ankle. if pain agrivated and felt like its something burning starting from back and reach to knee, its siatica, if not. do u have out toing right limb? try to forxefully external rotatte ur hip. if pain agrivated and radiate to pain u have piriformis syndrom in which the piriformis muscle is tight and compressing the nerve, then all u need is stritching the muscle, and deep butoks massage, and may need myoficial release..
Try a TENS machine. Can be bought from any chemist. My husband has used one and I use it if I have a migraine. Its a drug free alternative and you can control how strong you want the thing to be.It is a strange sensation when you first use it but it feels like its massaging your deep muscles. We found it very effective. Also my husband uses piroxicam gel prescribed by the doctor. It is a pain gel,not like deep heat. You just rub in the area it hurts and the gel soaks through your skin to the point of pain.Good luck
