Physical therapy is the best treatment. Doctors will only give you pain killers and they most often don’t work. Chiropractors can help some but PT is the best way to go. When he takes Xrays he should be able to tell what the problem is.

Sciatic is often caused by piriformis (a muscle in the buttock)entrapment or an impingement in the lumbar vertebra. In both cases massage can be extremely helpful in releasing the tension of the soft tissue that is squeezing the muscle and causing pain. During an intense flare up, you need to use pain relieving techniques such as a warm bath. Then to prevent reoccurance, you should see a professional who can help relieve chronically stressed tissues. Also, watch when it hurts most and what triggers the pain.

try acupuncture – there have been clinical studies that prove it works, i just can’t find that reference right now!

I think that a therapeutic massage would work the best, there are stretches that a therapist can do to loosen up the piriformis muscle (it sits on top of the sciatic nerve) A properly trained therapist can recommend stretches for you @ home to do as well.
Good Luck!!!!!!

it can only be treated with pain killers whenever there is a flare up as it is a nerve,in connection with the nerves that are in your spine

Medical doctors try to numb the pain with drugs but I have mine corrected with someone trained in massage. It’s the fastest way to heal I’ve found but it’s never a pleasant experience. Either way, it’s a literal pain in the butt.

Sciatica, or painful inflammation of the sciatic nerve, can be an extremely painful and recurrent condition. Cold packs to the buttock area can help ease some of the discomfort. Anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen or naproxen are frequently given but have little efficacy for most people. Narcotic analgesics may help more, but many physicians are hesitant to use them because of the possibility of abuse. Probably the best treatment is a steroid injection or steroid tablets by mouth. Steroids are potent anti-inflammatories that will help with the pain of sciatica, but ultimately the condition is something that must be healed by the body. Because of this, rest is necessary for the condition to improve.
Click HERE For Your FREE Download The medical community still hasn't standardized the term for this common spinal condition. So if you have been told you have a herniated disc, a slipped disc, a prolapsed disc, a bulging disc, a ruptured disc, or even degenerative disc disease, it's essentially the same thing. The terminology depends on who you are asking!
