What remedy or weird thing do you do to alleviate back pain?

My back is sore everyday and stiff. Right now my biggest complain is this spot in between my shoulder blades below my neck on the right side of where that hump thing is. It feels horrible.
My other complaint is that the muscles around my ribs seem sore and stuff. Like as if my muscles are hardening or something. Sometimes at night when I start to get settled into bed my back will start cracking by itself, that's the only time I get relief.
I've tried everything from hanging my head off my bed, neck rolls, stretches, massagers. Can someone tell me any home remedies or weird or natural things they do to alleviate strange back pain? Thanks so much!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain. Even if your doctor has pronounced judgement that he/she knows what’s causing things, try this book. As the author says, trigger point therapy should be the first course of treatment: it’s easy and cheap.

If you don't have a serious pathological back problem, then you should start exercise. Swimming is good. If you have a hump of sorts, then it means your head is too far forward, and you have had bad posture for some time. It may be irreversible now.
Exercise, posture, drink water, don't smoke.
Yoga always makes my back feel amazing. It hurts at first, but once you get going, the pain goes away.

Try sleeping on the floor, flat on your back. Give this three nights.
the two major sources of backpain are poor posture and a poor mattress. If your mattress is too soft and doesn't properly support your back, it can lead to chronic problems of this sort.
So, number one reccomendation is try out a different mattress.
Number Two is try yoga- I think you'll find that a regular yoga routine tends to stretch out almost every part of your body and releases alot of tension that contributes to aches and pains.
injures (most sport injures), bad body position (ussualy if you sit a lot in front of computer). there's few activities you can do to make your back – shoulder strong such as : lay down, straiht up your hand.. hold dumbell 1 – 3 pound pretend to write an alphabet. do it 3 – 5 sets. if you go to gym ask gym instructure what best to make your shoulder – back strong. once a week try to sleep on a flat surface without pillow.good luck
sex helps and marijuana I know it's not for everyone but when you've been in 2 car accidents that gave/give you an injured back for life, it works really well! otherwise your mattress might be to soft, and if you sleep on your back try your side because then your neck lays even with your back instead of lifted up which would effect your back being sore. try eating more calcium as well, and you might want to consult your doctor there could be something seriously wrong that you think is just regular back pain. don't wanna scare you but my mom thought she pulled a muscle in her butt (lol) turned out to be bladder cancer. luckily she's fine but still, you never know, if it's been going on for a long time see your doctor.
i am sorry,you are in pain..,but as i was reading your story..,i wondered you did not mentioned anything about going to a doctor with it..,..so,did you..?

seems you want to avoid the pain,in stead of dealing with the problem,thats causing the feelings of pain..

I agree with the mattress, etc,… but I mostly think that poor posture or imbalanced muscles tend to lead to back pain.
My experience is that Pilates has worked best for me. It's an exercise type similar to Yoga. However, the "gym classes" in Pilates that have become popular in the last few years are not very good in general. Proper pilates is either learnt right from the basics (the first few sessions it hardly feels like you're doing anything, as you learn to control the muscles that have weakened), in a beginner's class, or done in a studio with machinery, or a one on one instructor. If you can find someone who only does pilates, and takes you through a "beginner's" course of about 6 sessions before stepping you up to harder and harder stuff… fantastic! if you can't, try getting a good DVD that focuses on the exercise and doing it properly, not on your ability to do pilates twice and lose 23kg off your thighs
Alternatively / additionally, I've done a *little* bit of Egoscue work…. and it's always worked wonders for me too. Check out this website and do the back pain exercises. Try it for about 3 days (twice a day or so), and if it doesn't show any improvement, then it may not be for you. If it does show improvement, try reading the book specifically on back pain. it explains and also gives exercises. Great book.
