Sciatica Nerve Morning Stretches

What stretches can I do to stretch out my sciatica nerve in the morning?

Every morning when I wake up I can hardly walk because of the pain in my leg from my sciatica nerve. It takes me about 2-3 hours to be able to actually stand up straight in the morning after I wake up. There has to be something I can do in order to excersise this nerve. Any tips or advice would be helpful thank you very much!

I understand your pain because I have had sciatica for 14 years from a back injury that caused permanent nerve damage. Here is a website that tells you what stretches can help and even shows pictures:

You should also try to walk as much as possible because it really does help with the pain. Try to avoid hills and stairs as they will make the pain worse.

Some other options include chiropractic care (generally only good for short term relief), steroid injections (did not help me), physical therapy and pain management. I also took a drug called Trileptal for many, many years. It is actually an anti-seizure med but it is known to help with chronic nerve pain. Depending on the cause of your sciatica, you may be able to try that as well. I loved how it helped me and only stopped taking it because I want to begin trying to have a family in the near future and it is known to cause some types of birth defects.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon.

Before you get out of bed do about 15 hip rolls on each side. Bend your knees and place your feet close to your bottom, then roll gently from side to side. Next, in the same position, tilt your pelvis so that the small of your back is on the bed and lift your hips. Do about 10 of those. Next get on you hands and knees and let your feet fall off the edge of the bed. Next, slide your hands out in front of you and let your forehead rest on the bed. Do about 10 of those. NOW, see if you can ease into the morning.

BEEN THERE DONE THAT! I had to have epidural blocks to help with mine…best thing I ever did. Lay on your tummy keep your hips on the floor and arch your back tilting your head to your feet-hold for 10 seconds repeat x 5. lay on your back and bring one leg up bent with your knee towards your chest as far as you can and hold 10 sec repeat x 10 each leg. Doing those exercises a minimum of twice a day EVERYDAY (three times is best) will help the muscles around the nerve. Your nerve is pinching because of the spasms in the muscle around the nerve. Good Luck–don’t know how old you are but it gets worse with age :(
