Sciatica and Pain Management?

Does anyone have sciatica and know what to do about pain management?

I have sciatica and I was wondering if anybody else knew what to do that didn’t involve any pain medications other than Advil. Thanks!

Ibuprophen helps reduce swelling if its caused by the inflamation of discs putting pressure on the nerves. Stretching 2 to 3 times a day, especially forward stretches, will help to relieve the pain. It may take a week or two, but it will work.

That pain is no joke! but you actually have to learn to control the pain. Keep in mind that the pain will never go away, you can minimize it by taking certain measures. I follow all my chiropractors advice whom I visit once a month. It sure helps a lot. Plus it helps to release tension. I’ve had sciatica for about 3 years now and this is what I do: I always sleep with a pillow in between my legs and which helps to minimize jerky movements that will messed up your back while you sleep. I learned and forced myself no to carry anything heavy that is only going to trigger that nerve. I do exercise regularly, by walking which was tough since I use to run on a daily basis, but walking is not too bad. I got used to it and It does not put too much pressure on my back. I completely stopped taking medications. I also bought myself a firmer mattress which also helped. As you can see you have to take a lot of measures in order to reduce your medication intake and to completely eliminated….and it is all worth it.

    Good luck!

the only thing that has ever helped me is 4 ibuprofen every 4 hours.and to keep my knees together while i lay on my side.that many ibuprofen is not good for your stomach.but for me it’d better than falling on my face because my legs go out.i noticed that if i start to get a kidney infection from drinking to many diet cokes,it acts up even more.so now i try to drink plenty of water.
