Severe Sciatica Classed As Disabled?
I have severe sciatica – will I be classed as disabled?
I can barely walk and it really hampers even looking after my baby and children. Do people with severe sciatica get classed as disabled in the UK and therefore qualify for DLA?

No you wont Hun sorry .. i also have severe sciatica and was refused but got help from the hospital for physio and pain relief you can also have the injections if pain is that bad so therefore this is why you wont get DLA
Try getting it fixed maybe.
are you receiving help from your doctor. Physiotherapy helps with sciatica (my 15 year old daughter is a sufferer) also painkillers. I don’t know if it qualifies though for a disability though, you can but ask. a guy i work with has no movement in one ankle and foot and also had his big toe amputated after an accident in 07, they’ve told him he doesn’t qualify. hes in that much pain hes asking for it to be amputated.
Sorry for you, I get sciatica too and it is not classed as a disability
sciatica should be treatable–and only classified as a temporary disability–i knew someone that took a year –and many treatments to get better–
I had it myself–but luckily was able to recover within 2 months-
most people can still work with sciatica–teh other person I know was housebound for months through–
i don’t know how teh system works in the UK–but in teh US–you woudln’t qualify–becuase you would be expected to recover withina year–or possible work at a desk job using a wheelchair
You MIGHT be able to get the lower mobility allowance, but definitely not the care allowance. It will highly depend on your worker and how severe they perceive your problems.
