Treating Postnatal Backache
How did your Doctor treat your postnatal backache? What can be done?
I’m having horrible lower back pain that I guess is due to the epidural or delivery. I gave birth 6.5 weeks ago now and am going to the OB and my general medical dr. this week. I’m just wondering how they can treat this. Also, will this go away over time because it just seems to get worse? Thanks.
I did have a bad experience with my epidural, but I’d much rather have the epidural than natural anytime. I can’t imagine the pain without it. I was already in enough pain.

I’ve noticed that my lower back pain was from constantly bending (when giving my son a bath in the tub)…It just kept getting worse (the 1st 3 weeks after delivery), so, i started having my husband help me, and now my back is better- I definitely recommend goin to the doctor, as your doing- My friend is an RN and she told me sometimes with the epidural they can miss your spine by a little and it can cause migranes post delivery, and back pain- but its so rare, i’m sure your just experiencing something else. Best wishes!
I never had horrible back pain after birth. I had some achiness where I had my epidural but not even bad enough to take meds for. Sounds like it may be something else. Definately keep your appointment.
this is a good reason i am scared of the epidural. i think i will take the pain of natural
after having my daughter 2 years ago, i stopped being able to do situps. after having my son in april 8 weeks early, i have not been able to bend certain ways and i have a lump in my spine it hurts horribly.
i too am seeing my md on wed to find out what can be done. the perinatal dr made it sound like it was nothing…
but then again if he hadnt pulled me off certain meds my son most likely would have been born closer to term.. so.. bah.
ill let you know what i find out.
i experienced this sort of back pain during and after all three of my previous pregnancies and am expecting it this time as well. Don’t go to your OB, or even Primary Care Physician. All they will do is either give you muscle relaxers or pain pills neither of which will solve the problem itself. Pregnancy and childbirth can be very traumatic to the body. I highly recommend going to a good chiropracter! Alot of insurances are starting to cover it, and a good chiropracter will solve the Problem, not just cover the pain!
