Do you know of any ways to alleviate back pain due to pregnancy?

Question..about bad back pain in pregnancy…

I’m 23 weeks pregnant and I am starting to have really bad back pain. It is getting really uncomfortable to lie down on my sides because lying on either one gives me discomfort on my lower back.

Since I can’t lie down on my back I don’t know how else to lie down. Sitting down is just as uncomfortable.

Does anybody know of ways to alleviate back pain or any exercises I can do to get rid of these pains?

Thank you!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain. Even if your doctor has pronounced judgement that he/she knows what’s causing things, try this book. As the author says, trigger point therapy should be the first course of treatment: it’s easy and cheap.

ok. so you do know that by laying on your side they mean just dont lay COMPLETLEY on your back right? , i just got out of the hospital and while there they said that you can put a pillow under either of your sides and thats considered laying on your side. its a hell of alot more comfortable. and sleep with a pillow between your legs to where it supports your ENTIRE leg or it can cause hip pain and back pain. and yes. you can do these things called cat/cows, or also known as a pelvic rock. get down on your hands and knees like a cat and isolate your lower back area and lift (think cat arching its back. almost like a yoga pose) but you only want to isolate your lower back and lift up. this can also help with the peeing :) you can also do these against the wall. just stand directly up against the wall. put your hands on the crook of your back. and press in until your hands touch the wall. also do squats. and when you sit dont sit criss cross apple sauce. sit with just your ankles crossed and sit with a pillow under your butt… i have a few more things you can try so you can email me for info :)

Try laying on whichever side is most comfortable for you, and place a large pillow up under your back, and another in between your knees.

This will help to shift your weight, as well as align your spine to a more natural position.

This may sound silly but I always got on all fours….or I would bend over the arms of our couch and just rest. This took pressure off of my back. Also, try sitting in a reclined position by propping yourself up with pillows or just plain sitting in a recliner.

Try a heated wheat bag, this will help to ease the tightness of the muscles in your lower back, for it to work for a longer period of time though, I would use a hot water bottle at the base of your back, possible while you are sitting. Best wishes for your new joy to come

Okay, I know this may sound silly, but first get down on your knees. Make sure your shoulders are relaxed. Get down on all fours and tuck your tailbone under and push your head down between your shoulders, all while arching your back (like a scared cat pose). After, release and let your head float up but not to far back, and un-arch. Good luck this helped me! Found it in a book

When laying on my sides, I make a nest around me with pillows. As crazy as it may sound, it works! I have a long body pillow that gets placed under my belly & between my legs. I then put an extra bed pillow behind my back for support. Putting just one pillow between your legs should start to alleviate some of the discomfort. Good luck!
