What can I do for constant excruciating lower back pain?

Question about shooting pains from back and down leg..

I have had a terrible ache in my lower right side of my back and my hip. It sometimes shoots down to my leg. I can’t walk, lay down, sit or stand, without having these shooting pains. I can’t do simple everyday tasks. I have had the pain for 4 days now and it only seems to be getting worse. If anyone knows what this is please let me know. (I am going to go to the emergency room shortly)
I had a baby 6 months ago, my 3rd.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain. Even if your doctor has pronounced judgement that he/she knows what’s causing things, try this book. As the author says, trigger point therapy should be the first course of treatment: it’s easy and cheap.

Save your money on an ER. First turn over your fav shoes & look for unevenly worn soles; that’s a clue to your trouble. Any good foot doc (Podiatrist) can help you correct the problem without surgery.

Call massage therapists & find who does Myofascial Therapy or Bowen Therapy; you’ll be surprised with just one visit!

Go see a Doctor Now ! You have a Pinched nerve how you described what you feel it could last for a few months try to not put presser on you leg & rest how ever it is most comfortable for you it is very pain full to move or sit down Possibly a L5 or S1 in doctors terms You will need to go threw Physical therapy it is a pain full thing what you are going threw I have had the same problem it was a pinched nerve it lasted 3 months I was in bed & could not move I had to take medication & missed several hours of school & work The best advise is see a Doctor Urgent Care & do exactly what they tell you to do I hope you get well soon sever Pinched nerves are the worst pain in my opinion & are usually in the lower back with shooting throbbing pain going down the right leg all the way to the calf or foot get some one to help you walk when you see the Doctor I hope you recover fast from your back pain I know too well it is unbearable do what the Doctor tells you & follow threw with it .

go to the emergency room but i think that your age, and health factors are causing it. I think its arthritis caused by a stiff back, weak core and lack of daily exercise. If the docs give you meds, take them but start doing ab exercise and lower back exercises daily. For example, do 2-3 sets of 15-20 situps, then crunches, then russian twists, and finally back extensions..doing this will relieve the pain, and cause your core to be stronger, which will relieve the pain and if you constantly do it 5-6 days a week should leave. But it also might be a sciatic nerve or problem with a nerve pressing on your muscle and its causing extreme pain..but do the exercises, they will relieve the pain..

Pain that shoots down your leg as you describe may be the sciatic nerve being pinched in some way. Not a lot the ER can do, but they can help with the pain. In my opinion, it would definitely be worth the trip!!!

Feel better! Let us know what they say.

i would go and se gp about it, and tell them what sort of pain it is.
and see if he can refer you to th hospital, it may be, where you had to deliver the baby by pushing so hard.
you may of done your muscles in your back in. go and ask .
