What did u do to help with back ache while pregnant?

Question about back pain in pregnancy..

Im 24 weeks pregnant and i get really bad back ach on my right side. It seems to ache at my lower back on that side only and shoots towards my tummy. Sometimes if iv been walking around for a while every step i take causes a sharp pain.

I dont remember experiencing this when i was pregnant with my son. Im having to lift him a lot (he’s 19 months) so im going to try to stop that because i wasnt lifting anything heavy with his pregnancy.
Just wondering what people have done to help ease their pain similar to this.

Did physio’s, chiropractors, osteopaths help anyone? Im thinking about booking in with one of these??
Or what do u suggest?

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain. Even if your doctor has pronounced judgement that he/she knows what’s causing things, try this book. As the author says, trigger point therapy should be the first course of treatment: it’s easy and cheap.

The sharp pain is probably ligaments tearing or stretching. Probably due to lifting your 19 mo.old. Yes you should limit that to emergency lifting only! ;) Applying pressure on the area that hurts for a few minutes really helped. I did it myself if possible or had my husband do so. I also applied heat to the area. I was hooked on rubs like BenGay or whatever generic is available. I would apply to the area and it would melt the pain away. It in combination with heat is wonderful too.

A heating pad on a low setting has worked wonders for me..My baby has been off and on my sciatic nerve and this really has helped me…as well as a pillow between my knees while I have slept…Try some stretches…My doctor told me that until my baby moved I was pretty much stuck with dealing with the pain..Of course you can always call your Doc and leave a message for a nurse to call you…Good luck, try a heating pad.

Please… do not do ANY heavy lifting while pregnant because it could result in a placental tear and that can be very dangerous to your precious little one. I would advise that you go to the doctor so that they can rule out anything that could hurt the baby. And then, I would suggest to stop lifting, no matter what the consequences are… even if it causes you to lose your job. When I was pregnant, I also got a lot of back pain. I told my doctor all the pains I felt every visit so that she could rule out anything serious… and then I was able to rest assured all was well and just go with it and just think of how the baby is so very worth it and that it’s actually so wonderful to sacrifice for love’s sake.

Try to rest as much as possible.
A chiropractor appointment sounds like a good thing to try or maybe take a warm bath…..if hubby agrees, maybe get him to rub your back.

try going to a local salon or spa and getting a prenatal massage. You are carrying a lot of extra weight in your belly from the baby and you’re right. Picking up your son isn’t helping you out that much. A local spa should have a prenatal massage available and they know how to help you out with back pain and that sort of thing. Best of Luck to you!
