Common bad body mechanics of tilting the hip and leaning back when standing with ANY load in front, like holding a chair, grocery bag, or pregnancy, presses the lower spine, hurting it. Here are safe biomechanical instructions to stand with neutral spine. Any pain that is from the bad posture will go away as soon as you use it. You will need this more and more as your pregnancy progresses: Back Pain in Pregnancy -

She can go see a chiropractor. I have been seeing mine on a weekly basis since I was 10 weeks. Try to find a chiropractor that specializes in pregnancy.

Hi I had bad back pain for the first 12 weeks and then it does get better, I didnt do any excercises as my back is quite sore anyways so excercise will of made it worse, all I did was use an hot water bottle hot enought to take out the ache and not too hot as to harm the baby or me, and that helps loads, I know its a bit hot to be doing it in this weather but still it works and will make your wife feel much better, massages always help too but if you are like me and hated to lie on your front thinking of your baby you try and put up with the pain.

lots of cushion behind he back will help too as well as heat, heat pads that you stick on clothing also help too. and of course a warm bath will do the trick also.
